Instead of making one giant post at the end of the week, I thought I'd update as I have time throughout the week.
Today we started Week Two with the theme of Jungles. We read an awesome book I got at the library, Over in the Jungle: A Rainforest Rhyme. Highly recommend it! The kids also had a great time dancing to The Lion Sleeps Tonight. Adeline kept asking to hear it over and over. After the fifth time, I said enough! We also listened to The Carnival of Animals. We were suppose to act out different animals based on the sound of the music. Adeline wanted to watch the pictures on the screen, though, so we just talked about the sounds and how they might represent a certain animal. I wish I would have had my camera. I asked Adeline to close her eyes and imagine the animals we were talking about. She shut her eyes and put one finger to her temple, like she was thinking really hard. It was so cute! I wasn't sure that activity would hold her attention, but she happily sat through the entire 11 minutes.
We do Adeline's AWANA homework on Monday since there is less work that day in the Letter of the Week program. Today we talked about how God is always with us. The activity was to write a praise song using the tune of a familiar song. We used "Three Blind Mice" and came up with this:
We give thanks,
We give thanks;
To the Lord above,
To the Lord above;
We give Him thanks every day and all night;
He shows us the truth, the way, and the light;
We love Him and praise Him for all of our life;
Yes, we give thanks!
And that was the end of preschool for today.
I forgot in the last entry to mention that both kids are involved with Kindermusik, as well. It's a great program and I'm very thankful for someone with musical talent and knowledge to teach the kids. That's not one of my strong points!
I'm also a big fan of Highlights Hive Five. Adeline received a subscription as a gift. It's a fun learning tool when you only have a couple of minutes. There's also a nice Parent/Teacher Guide section on the website that gives ideas for taking the lessons farther. And did I mention Adeline's excitement of getting a magazine in the mail?! :)
For one more link: A friend of mine suggested the website Starfall. I haven't looked through it yet, but at first glance it seems pretty neat. She also thought it would be fun to make an "About Me" book chronicling Adeline's educational progress. I'll be checking into that, as well.
