Lately our Mondays have just plain been fun - which is nice since Mondays don't typically go that way. This week Monday was all about volcanoes. I had fun introducing the kids to the science of vinegar and baking soda.
Adeline formed our volcano out of play-doh around a plastic container filled with vinegar and red food coloring.
Then we poured in the baking soda!
Going...
Going...
Gone!
Thanks to the wonderful PBS LearningMedia website, we got to watch the Dinosaur Train episode about volcanoes. If you haven't checked out that site yet, you have to see it! It's free and FULL of educational resources. Love it!!
Adeline colored a picture of a volcano erupting, then we read a really great book about the Mount St. Helens eruption and found the volcano on our wall map. I have a Magic School Bus video about volcanoes from the library that we had planned to watch today, but of course I couldn't get either of our VCRs to work. Guess that will happen later in the week when I find some working equipment!
We've been adding blends to Adeline's vocab words. Monday was the "gr" sound - especially for you, Grandpa Greg! :) Today we added "sp" words.
Adeline was very excited to see Grandpa's name in her handwriting book. She decorated it with smiley faces and insisted I take a picture for him. Then she worried that Grandpa wouldn't be able to read it because of her smiley faces. I assured her it would be ok.
We finally saw some snow Sunday night! Poor Adeline had high hopes of getting a snow day on Monday, but I had to burst her bubble that snow days didn't really apply to homeschool (not that we got enough snow for anyone to receive a day off!). Instead, she worked really hard in the morning, then spent 2 hours playing outside after lunch.
This poor snowman didn't last too long. Adeline decided to eat his nose and steal his hat. :)
Even my little pink marshmallow enjoyed the change of weather!
Tuesday wasn't quite as much fun, but we did enjoy learning about folk music and listening to Mike Seeger play the jaw harp, guitar, two types of banjos, and the harmonica. The performance was compliments of the PBS LearningMedia website. Did I mention how much I love that site? :)
Adeline has almost completed her AWANA book for the year. I can't believe how much she has memorized! Last week she recited John 3:14-16 and sang all the books of the New Testament in the correct order. It's amazing how much those little brains can stretch! I'm enjoying learning all this Scripture right along with her. Braxton does an excellent job with his verses, too. Thankfully, his aren't quite as lengthy.
Better get to bed! Wednesday is our crazy day.
