Wrapping up Health

We spent the past week learning about doctors, dentists and ways to keep our bodies healthy.  We did an experiment with two hard boiled eggs.  One sat in coffee overnight and one sat in milk.  The coffee was meant to represent things that are unhealthy for our teeth.

Eww!!

We brushed and brushed the brown egg.  We were able to get some of the brown off, but not all of it.  We decided it was best not to eat very many unhealthy foods so we can keep our teeth strong and white!

Adeline journaled our experiment.  She drew one brown egg, one white egg and a toothbrush.  Then she told me what to write.

We took a trip to visit family and got to help Great-Grandma and Great-Grandpa in the garden!  The produce was part of our yummy supper.  It doesn't get any healthier than that!

Sadie thought she'd help herself.

She learned how to go down stairs while we were there, too.  Unfortunately, she later tried her new skills  outside on the cement steps and found herself with a bloody lip.  Poor baby!

When we got home, we did an experiment with "germs."  Adeline slathered lotion on her hands, then I sprinkled on some glitter "germs."  She experimented with 3 different ways to remove germs: dry paper towel, water and soap with water.  She decided that the best way to remove germs is to wash with soap and water.

Our journaling activity dealt with healthy food choices.  The first drawing is a plate showing portions.  The second is 5-4-3-2-1 for healthy living and the pictures are Adeline's drawings of her favorite healthy foods - cucumbers and strawberries.  Yum!

We've had such nice weather, we took our Language Arts activities outside.

Matching capital letters with lowercase buddies.  Are you getting this, Sadie?

Jumping on the letters for the beginning sounds of words I said.

Running to the letter "e" when my words had the short e sound in the middle (like "bed" and "hen").

Playing hopscotch with sight words.

Bad picture of the sight words.

Sentences Adeline can read ALL BY HERSELF!  :)

Words she knows.

And Sadie enjoying the evening.  This was just cute.  :)

Whew!  What a week!  Tomorrow we begin our Chicka Chicka Boom Boom unit.  We have been using the book throughout the year adding letters to our tree, but for the next week or so we will do some special activities with the book.  It should be fun!
